Steelhead
Fishing:
Nestucca and Wilson Rivers
Winter
Steelhead
December
- March
|
 |
| Steelhead
may be the hardest fighting fish, pound for
pound, in the Northwest. Drag sizzling runs and
acrobatic antics make steelhead a blast to fish
for and personally one of my favorite species to
fish for in the world. We are very lucky to have
some of the best runs of Steelhead the world has
to offer here in the Northwest.

The
Nestucca and Wilson Rivers are in Tillamook County on
Oregon's north coast. Winter Steelhead begin entering
the rivers in December, and the fishing remains strong
through March. Winter steelhead fishing is a favorite
of mine.

I
employ various methods on these two rivers. Fly fishing,
plug pulling, side drifting, bobber and jigging and drift
fishing tactics are all effective. I let the guest decide,
as everyone has their preferences. I’m confident we’ll
catch fish with any of these methods! The fishing is done
from my 17 foot Clackacraft Drift Boat, which has plenty of
room for two anglers. The rivers are in close proximity to
one another, so it’s not uncommon for us to fish
both rivers on the same day.
